About

Zero Waste Salem

In 2008, Salem’s Mayor appointed SalemRecycles, a City recycling committee, to reduce trash tonnage in the City of Salem by increasing recycling, diverting reusable items, and motivating city stakeholders through education and information. In 2025, the committee voted to rebrand as Zero Waste Salem to reflect the wide array of waste reduction activities we host to inspire reuse, repair, composting, and of course, recycling. The new name aligns us with the principles laid out by other zero waste organizations across the country and around the world.
