TerraCycle Recycling

You can recycle certain streams of TerraCycle at City Hall Annex, and at most of our events!

TerraCycle is a social enterprise Eliminating the Idea of Waste®. In 21 countries, they tackle the issue from many angles. It’s been found that nearly everything we touch can be recycled, but not all facilities and curbside recycling programs are able to process and sell these materials. TerraCycle accepts many non-recyclable items through national, first-of-their-kind recycling platforms.

TerraCycle makes it possible to recycle difficult items that are unable to be recycled curbside.

Here’s what we are collecting:

– SWIFFERS: save all used, dried Swiffer pads.

– RAZORS: save all brands of reusable and disposable razors, blades, & cartridges, as well as any flexible or rigid plastic packaging they come in.

– ORAL CARE: Non-electric toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes & caps, and floss containers. Save all brands, plus toothbrush packaging.

BRITA:  Brita dispenser, Brita pitchers, Brita bottles, Brita standard filters, Brita Stream filters, Brita bottle filters, Brita filter packaging, Brita Longlast® filters, Brita Stream® pitchers.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: TerraCycle has ended the RUBBERMAID collection as of December 31, 2023. These items will no longer be accepted. Please reuse as much as possible and keep in mind that the black plastic to-go containers are NOT accepted in the curbside recycling program.

Due to changes in the Tom’s of Maine collection, we are no longer accepting deodorant containers or mouthwash bottles as of January 1, 2025. Please put mouthwash bottles in your curbside recycling cart.

The City now offers a permanent collection for these items. Please place these items in the proper collection bins located on the first floor of City Hall Annex, 98 Washington St, around the corner from the elevators, and make sure all items are empty (no toothpaste or deodorant residue inside) and dry.
